At Wool Couture, we believe everyone can experience the joy of making. Founded in Yorkshire in 2016 by Claire and Ali Gelder, our mission is to inspire creativity through beautiful craft kits, quality materials, and accessible learning for makers of all abilities.
Since launching in 2016, we have sold over 500,000 crochet kits, knitting kits, weaving kits, macramé kits, needle felting kits, and embroidery kits to makers across the UK and around the world, helping people discover new skills, embrace creativity, and create something they're proud of.
We specialise in crochet, knitting, weaving, macramé, needle felting, and embroidery, making traditional crafts accessible to beginners while continuing to inspire experienced makers to explore new techniques and projects.
Our bestselling Learn To kits are designed with beginners in mind, containing everything needed to start a creative journey. Each kit includes carefully selected yarns, tools, patterns, and easy-to-follow instructions, with many also featuring free online video tutorials. Whether you're picking up a crochet hook for the first time or learning to knit your first stitch, we make it easy to learn at your own pace and build confidence along the way.
Alongside our craft kits, we offer a carefully curated collection of premium yarns, tools, and accessories to support makers as their skills grow. From complete beginners to experienced crafters, we're here to inspire creativity and support every stage of the making journey.
The inspiration behind Wool Couture is deeply personal. Claire discovered first-hand how crafting could positively impact mental health and wellbeing. Through knitting, crochet, and other creative crafts, she experienced the calming effects of making, the benefits of mindfulness, and the satisfaction that comes from creating something with her own hands.
Today, we are proud to help others experience those same benefits by encouraging people to slow down, take time for themselves, reconnect with their creativity, and enjoy the sense of achievement that comes from making something by hand.
In 2017, Wool Couture reached a significant milestone when Claire appeared on Dragons' Den, securing investment from two Dragons, Tej Lalvani and Touker Suleyman. Their support helped accelerate our growth while allowing us to stay true to our core mission: making traditional crafts accessible, enjoyable, and inspiring for everyone.
Today, Wool Couture continues to bring creativity into homes around the world, helping people discover new skills, enjoy the therapeutic benefits of crafting, and experience the unique satisfaction of creating something themselves.
Whether you're picking up a crochet hook for the first time or embarking on your next creative project, we're here to inspire and support every step of your journey.
