It’s that time of the year when many of us are getting ready for the festive season, filled with excitement around the build up to Christmas – and it’s also the time when we bring out the Christmas decorations, and advent calendars.
But there are many who are vulnerable, struggling and lonely over this time as well, and the rise of the Reverse Advent Calendar helps us to create a way of giving something back.
“The reverse advent calendar is a way of helping people with limited resources over Christmas.” In a BBC article, it goes on to say that “December has arrived and in homes across the country, cardboard doors will be opened in the traditional countdown to Christmas. But just as some look to luxury, others are choosing to reverse things this advent – with a calendar which gives back.
The idea is simple; instead of opening the door to a chocolate or picture, you do the giving.”
Here at Wool Couture we are uplifted by this idea of an advent calendar that gives something back. So every day, instead of opening a door to eat a yummy choccie, we will put something back into our advent calendar and build up a handcrafted gift collection. There’s a bit of everything – from yarn and tools, to patterns and full DIY kits from some of our most popular products. This is something very close to our hearts and deeply important to us, to spread random acts of kindness at a time of year that can be challenging and hard for some – under the banner of our Kind & Care Project. We’d love you to nominate someone you know is vulnerable, less fortunate, an unsung hero who is in need of that extra festive cheer, and to give us a short reason why you have put them forward.
At the end of the 24th December we’ll announce one of your nominees to receive our Reverse Christmas Advent Calendar with over £250 of our handcrafted products, and we hope to bring joy and a smile to someone’s Christmas.
We’ve started off on the 1st of December with an advent gift of a merino wool grab bag, and every day we’ll add another product to our advent yarn tree.
You are welcome to get in touch on our social media pages with your nominee and a short reason why you feel they would really enjoy an extra gift of craft joy, or you can email – firstname.lastname@example.org
Together let’s make someone’s Christmas an uplifting time!
