Founded in 2015, Wool Couture is a young, dynamic brand specialising in chunky DIY knitting, crochet, weaving and macrame kits that sell all over the world.  We manufacture our own wooden craft tools and we also offer a unique range of handmade accessories and homewares.  We are on online brand and our customers come from all over the world, we also wholesale to a number of larger brands including John Lewis and The Tate.

Location: The Old Robin Hood, Southmoor Road, Brierley Gap, Barnsley, S72 9HA.

Reports to: Managing Director

Hours: We’re flexible for the right candidate. Part time between the hours of Monday – Friday 9am-5.30pm. Weekend between the hours of 10am-4pm.

Salary: minimum wage per annum pro-rata

More about the role:

We are a small team and our business is growing.  We have a vacancy for a store experience assistant. 

Your role will involve greeting our lovely customers, helping our visitors with their crafting queries and serving them drinks and cake. You must have excellent craft knowledge – we’re a small business and sometimes its literally all hands to the decks; our customers are our main priority and you will find yourself delivering excellent customer service, packing orders and supporting the day to day delivery of our growing business.  

You will have strong people skills and really good knitting and crocheting experience. Ideally you will have experience in a variety of crafts including weaving and macrame.

We pride ourself on getting things right for our customers and we need someone that can give a wow customer experience.  People might have called you a people person in the past and this is just what we are looking for – these qualities will be perfect for our business.  

Because were a small business we can get really busy and we really need someone that can remain calm under pressure and who enjoys working in what can be an extremely busy environment.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Greeting customers.
  • Promoting our products.
  • Informing customers about new products.
  • Checking stock availability.
  • Remembering details of products, special offers and prices.
  • Handling customers transactions.
  • Working on a digital till.
  • Processing sales, exchanges and refunds.
  • Answering customer questions.
  • Keeping the store clean and tidy.
  • Restocking products.
  • Assist in delivery of products.
  • Supporting other colleagues.
  • Customer service tasks such as answering live chat messages, emails and phone calls.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and safe work place.
  • Willing to undertake all relevant training, education and supervision required with the role.
  • Passion for handmade products and keeping traditional skills alive.

You will ideally be:

  • Patient.
  • Experienced in crafts mainly knitting and crocheting.
  • Highly motivated and able to complete tasks independently.
  • A real team player.
  • An excellent communicator.
  • Socially savvy.
  • Excellent in written, verbal and numeracy skills.
  • A friendly individual with a can-do attitude.
  • Cool under pressure.
  • Organised.
  • Flexible towards working increased hours if required.
  • Willing to undertake other duties as and when required.

Because we’re a small business having team members with additional skills, abilities or interests is always useful, so whilst not necessary for the role, do shout out if you have any of the following: second language, photography & photoshop, other craft skills, wood turning skills, laser cutting skills, trade show experience or anything you think may be relevant for the job.

This role requires candidates to be able to stand for long periods of time and be physically fit to lift and carry our stock which can be around 10 kilos in weight.
