Meet our flock at Wool Couture

meet our flock at wool couture

Hello and welcome to the flock behind Wool Couture.

We may be an online business but we are real people working very hard behind the scenes.

Ever wondered who picks your knitting needles? How about who packs your yarn? Have you ever engaged in a conversation with us on social media?

Are you imagining us waist deep in merino wool?  Maybe you have conjured up a scene in your head, like a scene from willy wonker. Where we run like a well oiled machine and our DIY kits magically appear, while we sit back and drink afternoon tea.

Ok, I’m not going to lie, the drinking tea while knitting or crocheting while robots do the work sounds amazing. But it’s not like that. We work hard and enjoy what we do.

What’s great about Wool Couture is we can do each others duties and we can help each other out when it gets busy. It’s a real team effort.

Director of Operations.

My role varies from packing, dispatching, ordering resources to managing team members.

Interesting things you didn’t know about Ali:

“I competed in triathlons before my life at Wool Couture. Trained six days a week with cycling being my favourite discipline. I was never the winner, but I loved the challenge.”

“My hobbies include fell walking, fell running, camping, gardening and reading thrillers.”

“I’m a relief printer by training. I love weaving up the mini rectangular looms using different yarns and techniques, then displaying them altogether…they look fun and funky.”

“The first Wool Couture product I made was the Giant knitting needles for use with the extreme yarn. I joined Birstall Woodturning Club to learn to use a woodturning lathe. I found myself a mentor, David Fligg, who taught me how to use all the equipment and tools needed to wood turn, and he helped me develop my knitting needle design. It took me a week to turn my first needle, and I remember how proud I felt when was able to turn five pairs in a week. I can now turn one hundred pairs a week. The longest knitting needles I turned were two meters long!”

“The best part of working for Wool Couture is working alongside our team. We are a small but dynamic workforce. I enjoy working alongside our external teams and value their specialisms. And I enjoy working with our investors and the opportunities they create for us all.”
